On the first day alone, they detained 81 individuals, many with criminal records. The arrival of Border Patrol agents in Charlotte has sparked significant opposition. Hundreds of residents gathered for a protest at First Ward Park in Uptown on Saturday afternoon. Speakers condemned the operations, expressing concerns about the fear they instill in the immigrant community. Protesters held signs in both English and Spanish, demanding the agents leave.
Community Organizers Speak Out
Asha Patel, a community organizer with the Party for Socialism and Liberation, shared her frustrations with local media. She emphasized the need for the Border Patrol to leave Charlotte immediately. Patel also mentioned that similar protests in Chicago had successfully pushed agents out, hoping for a similar outcome in Charlotte.
