Charleston's Citadel Mall: A New Vision in the Making

Get ready, Charleston! The City of Charleston’s Design Review Board has a big meeting coming up. They'll be talking about the future of the Citadel Mall on Monday. This is your first chance to see what the team has in mind for the redesign. The team will introduce themselves and share the inspiration behind the project. They’ll also dive into the design principles and guidelines, giving you a sneak peek of their final vision. The team includes some notable names like Singerman, Development Management Associates, and DesignWorks. They’re all coming together to make sure the Citadel Mall becomes something special. The Design Guidelines are set to kick off in 2024, aiming to create modern, forward-thinking designs for high-density, mixed-use properties.

The current site is over 88 acres with more than 1. 1 million square feet of retail space. Big names like Belk, Dillard’s, Target, and the Medical University of South Carolina are staying put. The future plans are exciting—think outdoor spaces, a central square, easy street access, and more retail storefronts. The first phase of development is still up in the air.
