Celebrity Networks: A Game of Connections

Imagine a group of people where some are more famous than others. We'll call these important folks "celebrities" and their status "celebrity weight. " The goal for everyone in this group is to get close to the most famous people while keeping their own costs down. This is what we're calling the "celebrity game. " In this game, each person has a cost based on how many direct links they have to others and the total weight of the famous people they're not close to.

Interestingly, this game always ends up with a final setup where no one wants to change their connections anymore – we call this a "Nash equilibrium. " And there's a special kind of game within this model called "star celebrity games, " where the network of connections ends up looking like a star shape. We've even figured out some exact limits for how good or bad these final setups can be, and these limits can be sharpened when we look at specific types of networks, like trees. This game highlights how important connections are and how we all try to get close to the most famous people while managing our own costs.
