Cat's Death Highlights Risk of Bird Flu in Pet Food

A cat from Oregon passed away after consuming pet food that was found to contain bird flu. This rare event has led to a recall of the raw frozen turkey-based cat food sold across several U. S. states and Canada. The product, made by Northwest Naturals, was strictly consumed by the indoor cat, proving the food was the source of the virus. The affected batch has specific "best if used by" dates, and owners are urged to throw it away and seek refunds.

No humans have been harmed yet, but those who interacted with the cat are being monitored for flu symptoms. Bird flu cases in humans have been mild, except for one severe case reported in Louisiana. Oregon has seen one human case linked to poultry farming, with the person recovering fully. In late October, bird flu was also detected in a pig in Oregon, marking the first U. S. case in swine.
