Cars Unlock with a Smile or a Touch
Thursday, January 2, 2025
Experts predict that by 2026, the biometric tech market will hit a whopping $44. 1 billion. Companies like Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis have been using this tech for years. Hyundai's Tucson model, for instance, uses fingerprint scanners to prevent forgeries. Genesis takes it a step further with Face Connect, which opens your door with a simple face recognition.
But it's not just about access. These systems can also enhance safety. Subaru's DriverFocus uses facial recognition to detect if you're distracted or sleepy behind the wheel. Nissan and Infiniti use biometrics to keep passengers cool, adjusting the airflow based on who's in the car.
Privacy is a big concern, though. Genesis, for one, ensures that all biometric data stays local and encrypted within the vehicle. As this tech advances, we might see even more innovative uses, like body movement or blink detection for authentication.
