Canada’s Media Giants Team Up to Boost Local Films

Canada, TorontoTuesday, March 24, 2026
Postmedia Studios, a unit of Postmedia Network Inc. , and Elevation Pictures have joined forces to back Canadian feature projects. The first joint effort is the documentary “Fire Weather, ” made for CBC and produced by Elevation Pictures and Mercury Films. The film follows the story of wildfires, drawing from John Vaillant’s book and directed by Jennifer Baichwal and Nicholas de Pencier. It looks at how fires affect people, the environment, and society. The partnership will use Postmedia’s broad audience reach across more than 110 brands to promote the movie on multiple platforms at its theatrical debut. Postmedia Studios, which started in 2024, blends national media reach with new financing models to help films get made and released successfully.
Elevation Pictures, known for distributing titles like the Oscar‑winning “Sentimental Value, ” began producing films in 2016. Recent releases include the Golden Globe‑nominated “French Exit, ” “Alice, ” and the Berlinale Panorama pick “Paradise. ” The company sees this alliance as a way to create new chances for filmmakers and scale its production work. Both sides view the collaboration as a powerful way to bring Canadian stories to wider audiences and support filmmakers in bringing their projects to life.
