Campaign Finance Frenzy: Top Contenders Rake in Cash for East Baton Rouge Mayor-President Race
Tuesday, August 27, 2024
Incumbent Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome has raised an impressive $210,000, while challenger Ted James has secured $310,000, putting him on track to once again outpace Broome in campaign contributions. James boasts over 1000 individual donations, emphasizing the grassroots nature of his campaign.
Other candidates, like Republican Sid Edwards, have raised more than $6,300. Nathaniel Hearn has close to $7,900, while Steve Myer and William Roundtree have a modest $450 and $100 on hand, respectively.
Broome's campaign manager, M. E. Cormier, remains unfazed by the competition, stating, 'We're not concerned about how other donors donate.'
With the election just around the corner on Nov. 5, the race for Mayor-President is far from over, and every donation counts.
