A SpaceX rocket launch lit up the evening sky over Southern California.

All eyes were on the sky, and for a good reason.

SpaceX successfully sent a Falcon 9 rocket from Vandenberg Space Force Base at around 6 PM on a Monday evening. This wasn't just any rocket, though. It was on its 23rd mission.

The Falcon 9 rocket was loaded with Starlink satellites, part of a project to provide global internet access.  The rocket's main job was to reach space, deliver the satellites, and then return safely to Earth.

The rocket stage returned to Earth after around 8 minutes.  This wasn't a landing on a pad, though. This time, it splashed down in the Pacific Ocean. This is a different approach than most SpaceX landings where the rocket lands on a pad or a ship.

The sky was lit up by the rocket's trail.

The launch was a big deal for locals. People across the region posted photos and videos of the rocket's journey. These images captured the excitement and wonder of seeing a rocket soaring through the night sky.  It is a sight to be seen!

Where was the rocket spotted?

Some lucky viewers even captured the rocket flying over iconic locations. One of those that captured the moment was Lita Gardiner, a show director for ABC7. She saw the rocket flying over the Disney California Adventure park.

The Falcon 9 is a reusable rocket, which means it can be used for multiple missions. This makes space travel more affordable and accessible. SpaceX is at the forefront of this technology, and this launch was another step in their journey.

It is a sight to see.  Watching a rocket launch is a thrilling experience. It reminds us of the incredible advancements in technology and the potential for future exploration.  It is a reminder that space is no longer a distant dream but a reality that is within reach.
