Building Collapse in Angeles Leaves Three Dead and 17 Missing
A new construction site in Angeles, a city north of Manila, collapsed, killing three people and leaving 17 others unaccounted for. Rescue teams pulled two bodies from the wreckage early Monday, raising the confirmed death count to three. One victim was alive when rescued but later died; the other suffered a heart attack while trapped.
The collapse occurred at a nine‑story condo‑hotel that was being built with an extra, unapproved tenth floor for a swimming pool. Investigation teams are now looking into why the structure failed.
Thermal scans have picked up signs of life under the rubble, so search crews are still looking for survivors. A fourth body is expected to be added to the death toll once it is recovered.
Among those who died was a 65‑year‑old Malaysian national whose body was found in a nearby hotel that also collapsed. Many of the missing people are construction workers who were on site at the time.
Angeles City Mayor Carmelo Lazatin said officials are trying to find the building’s owner and confirm how many workers were present. Families of the missing are growing frustrated with the slow pace of rescue operations and lack of updates.
- Lea Casilao, wife of a missing worker, said she only wants regular news about her husband’s condition.
- Lorena Angcao added that the authorities should keep families informed about what is happening.
