Brazil Senator Meets U. S. Leaders After Controversy
Flavio Bolsonaro, the Brazilian senator campaigning for president, flew to Washington after a fresh controversy erupted. He had already met former President Donald Trump in the Oval Office just a day earlier.
During his trip, Bolsonaro held talks with:
- Vice President J.D. Vance
- Secretary of State Marco Rubio
The discussions centered on three pressing issues:
- Combating organized crime
- Securing rare‑earth mineral supplies
- Defending freedom of speech
Bolsonaro also brought up his father’s health situation, noting that the former president is under house arrest for a coup plot and serving a 27‑year sentence.
The meeting follows Bolsonaro’s admission that he requested money from a jailed banker to fund a biographical film about his father—a claim he denies but one that has dented his standing in recent polls.
Despite the setback, Bolsonaro remains a strong contender against rival Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva for the second‑round election. Lula himself has already met Trump at the White House earlier this month.
