Brace for Chilly Snow Day: Northeast Ohio Prepares for Evening Flurries

Get ready for a cold one, folks! The forecast is calling for some chilly weather, with wind chills starting as low as single digits in the morning and only climbing to the teens by afternoon. Don't expect much sun today as clouds roll in, setting the stage for evening snow showers. If you're commuting, be prepared for a bit of a mess with potentially slick roads. Several counties in Northeast Ohio are under a Winter Weather Advisory, which starts at 4 p. m. on Friday and lasts until 4 a. m. on Saturday. The counties affected include Ashland, Crawford, Erie, Holmes, Huron, Ottawa, Richland, Sandusky, and Wayne. For Carroll, Coshocton, and Tuscarawas counties, the advisory begins at 7 p. m. on Friday and extends until 1 a. m. on Sunday. Expect the snow to be widespread and stick around for at least six hours, with accumulations likely to reach 2-4 inches by midnight. Overnight, the snow will become more scattered and could transition into local lake-effect snow.

Looking ahead, another weak cold front moves in on Monday, bringing more lake-effect snow through Wednesday. The eight-day forecast predicts a busy storm track between January 21-27, which increases the chances of general snowfall coming from the southwest towards the end of the month. Temperature-wise, don't expect any warm-ups soon. Below-normal temperatures are likely to continue through the middle of the month. There might be a short break at the end of next week, but it won't last long. Around January 20-22, prepare for more cold snaps. The last time we had such consistently cold days in the first half of January was way back in 1981! This January is unlike any of the last 15 years. Usually, we get a brief cold spell at the start of the month, followed by some breaks. But this year is different.
