Boston's Big Snowfall and the Chilly Days Ahead
Unexpected Snowfall
Boston experienced a significant snowstorm on Sunday night, with 4 to 6 inches of snow falling across the city. Some areas, like Taunton, received even more, with up to 7 inches. This marked the largest snowfall of the season so far.
Logan Airport Records
At Logan Airport, 5.3 inches of snow were recorded. This amount is nearly half of the total snowfall seen all winter. The last time such a heavy snowfall occurred in one go was back in December 2024.
Arctic Blast Follows
The snow wasn't the only concern. After the storm, a blast of arctic air moved in, making Tuesday morning extremely cold. Wind chills dropped to a dangerous 5 degrees. However, this cold snap was short-lived, and by Wednesday and Thursday, temperatures began to rise slightly.
Another Cold Front on the Way
Don't get too comfortable, though. Another cold front is expected to arrive by late Friday night, bringing dangerously low wind chills—around 10 degrees below zero. This cold weather is expected to stick around into the following week.
Potential Storm Next Weekend
There's also talk of another storm approaching by the end of next weekend. However, it's still too early to tell if it will impact southern New England. For now, the main concern is the cold weather.
Stay Safe in the Cold
With all this snow and cold, it's crucial to stay safe:
- Take breaks to warm up if working outside.
- Cover up well to avoid frostbite.
- Watch out for icy surfaces.
