Boosting Paper Batteries with Super Chargers

Monday, December 23, 2024
Paper is an eco-friendly choice for many products, but it's not great at storing electrical charges. Think of it like a leaky bucket—the charge just slips away. Scientists have figured out a way to make paper hold onto charge better by adding tiny pockets, or "traps, " for the charge to hide in. They did this using a special bonding strategy. This new kind of paper can hold onto charge 54 times better than regular paper and has a way higher dielectric constant, which is like how well it insulates.
When used in a triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG), this paper can produce 45 times more power and keeps a steady voltage even after 20, 000 uses. Plus, it's tough enough to handle hot environments without losing much voltage. This breakthrough could help power small electronics in harsh conditions.
