Boeing's Bumpy 2024: Orders Up, Deliveries Down

Boeing wrapped up a challenging 2024 with a mixed bag of news. Despite landing 142 orders in December, mostly for the troubled 737 Max, the company's deliveries continued to lag. This year was rough from the start, with orders almost coming to a halt after a door plug mishap on an Alaska Airlines flight. The strike by 33, 000 machinists in September didn't help either. While production restarted in December, it was too late to make a significant dent in the year's deliveries.

Boeing managed only 30 deliveries in December, bringing the year's total to 348 planes, a steep drop from the previous year. This slowdown in deliveries is crucial because that's when Boeing cashes in on plane sales. With fourth-quarter deliveries down 64% from the same period in 2023, the company is looking at another big loss when it announces its financial results later this month. Looking ahead, Boeing expects more losses in 2025.
