Bo Nickal: From Colorado Kid to UFC Contender

Rifle, Colorado, USA,Monday, June 15, 2026
Born in Rifle, Colorado on January 14, 1996, Bo Nickal grew up surrounded by sport. His parents, Jason and Sandy, were athletes themselves—Jason played college football and wrestling, while Sandy excelled in basketball at San Diego State. Their support set the stage for Bo and his three brothers to train hard from a young age. Bo began wrestling at six in Wyoming, moving with his father when he became head coach at Rio Rancho High School in New Mexico. The high school years were a proving ground: he claimed state titles and national junior medals, showing early promise that would blossom in college.
At the University of Iowa, Nickal reached new heights. He captured three straight NCAA Division I titles from 2017 to 2019 and earned the prestigious Dan Hodge Trophy in 2019. He also topped the Big Ten Championships multiple times and won world‑level medals, including a U23 World Championship in 2019. Off the mat, Bo met his future wife, Maddie Holmberg, while both studied kinesiology. They married in 2020 and welcomed their son, Ace, in late 2023. Their partnership offers a steady anchor as Bo shifts focus to the UFC. Now set to face Kyle Daukaus, Nickal’s journey from a Colorado childhood to the UFC stage is fueled by family, early coaching, and relentless training. Each milestone reflects a path built on hard work and support.
