Blood Moon 2026: A Red Glow Across the Night
North AmericaTuesday, March 3, 2026
From Yucca Valley, California, another observer shared a view of the blood moon. The lunar seas were visible as darker shapes on the crimson surface. The image showed how Earth’s shadow moved slowly across the moon.
In northern New Zealand, a photographer named Phil Walker captured the moon during totality. The photo showed the moon glowing with a deep red tone, surrounded by Earth’s darkness. It was a striking image that highlighted the eclipse’s beauty.
The event will finish when Earth’s outer shadow, called the penumbra, leaves the moon. This will happen at 9:23 a. m. EST (14:23 GMT). After that, the moon will return to its normal white glow.
