Birmingham's Community Unites Against Gun Violence
Birmingham, USAWednesday, September 25, 2024
"In Alabama, you don't need a background check to carry a gun, and people carry them like they carry their car keys," Crawford said. "That's ridiculous. We need to take a closer look at our gun laws and make sure they're protecting our communities, not putting them in harm's way."
Crawford's restaurant was not directly affected by the shooting, but he was concerned for the well-being of his employees, who were unharmed in the attack. He hopes that the incident will not deter people from visiting Birmingham, which he calls an "anomaly" in an otherwise safe and welcoming city.
"We have so many wonderful attractions, historical landmarks, and things to be thankful for," Crawford said. "Let's not let this incident overshadow all the good things Birmingham has to offer."
