Big Ten Blood Battle: Michigan vs. Ohio State
The University of Michigan Health is preparing for a significant blood drive at the legendary Michigan Stadium on Sunday, November 23. This event, titled "Be a Hero at the Big House," is part of the 43rd annual Blood Battle with Ohio State University. The competition this time isn't on the football field but in the number of blood donations collected during October and November.
Why This Drive is Crucial
Blood donations often decline during the holiday season, making this pre-season push essential. Dr. Robert Ernst, the chief health officer at the University of Michigan, underscores the importance of maintaining a steady blood supply. He notes that events like the Blood Battle and the Big House drive are vital for keeping the community's blood supply stable.
More Than Just Blood Donations
The event offers more than just blood donation opportunities. Participants can:
- Sign up to be organ or bone marrow donors
- Play games for prizes
- Take self-guided tours of the stadium (scheduled for 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 to 3:30 p.m.)
