Bezos Backs Trump’s Plan to Cut Red Tape

Billionaire Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon, has shown support for President-elect Donald Trump's goal to reduce regulations. During an interview at The New York Times' DealBook Summit, Bezos expressed optimism about Trump’s upcoming term, especially his plans to cut back on regulations. Bezos believes that excessive regulations are holding the country back from growing and that by helping Trump with this agenda, he can contribute to the nation's economic success. Bezos owns The Washington Post, which has stopped endorsing presidential candidates. He explained that this change doesn't mean the newspaper will be soft on covering the presidency but rather indicates a shift in policy that isn't driven by fear of Trump targeting his companies.

Amazon, one of Bezos’s companies, had a difficult time with Trump during his first term, including issues with a Pentagon contract due to Trump’s public criticism. Bezos' aerospace company, Blue Origin, competes with Elon Musk's SpaceX. Musk has been appointed to lead Trump's Department of Government Efficiency, along with fellow billionaire Vivek Ramaswamy. The Department of Government Efficiency isn't actually a government department, meaning Musk and Ramaswamy won't need to undergo typical federal employment checks. They've also stated they won't receive any pay for their work.
