Baking for a Cause: A Student’s Sweet Mission
Misha Mondal, a junior at Ridge High School, has turned her love for baking into a way to help people and animals.
- Founded: Patisserie of Art (November, after a year of planning)
- Monthly Transparency: Posts receipts on the first of every month so buyers can see where their money goes
- Mission: Keep making treats she enjoys while supporting three charities close to her heart
During the pandemic, Misha dove deeper into baking, learning recipes from brownies to macarons. She says it lets her be creative in flavor, texture, and design, and she believes food can bring neighbors together. Cookies are her favorite because of their endless shapes and flavors, and she also loves making King’s Gallette—a French pastry that requires time and patience but rewards with a delicious result.
“Even if my impact feels small, I’m grateful to help a few people and animals,” she says.
She chose:
- Jane Goodall Institute – for animal welfare
- St. Hubert’s Animal Shelter – for local animals
- Nourish NJ – for food‑insecure locals and community well‑being
What makes Misha’s pastries stand out is the variety she offers. She treats baking as both art and science, ensuring each item tastes perfect before it leaves her kitchen. But the real difference is the mission: every purchase directly aids a charity.
