Bad Oysters Ruin a Meal in the Big Easy

This past month, there has been some trouble with the oysters. This happened in the water around the Louisiana Chandeleur Islands. People in New Orleans had stomach issues, later the health people found out it was because they ate oysters from an area that was recalled. These oysters were harvested in January, oysters have been recalled and is not a life-threatening problem for a person to eat oysters from other areas. Oysters were found in Area 3, the area east of Lake Borgne and north of Eloi Bay. The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries also suspended oyster harvesting in Area 3. The Louisiana Department of Health stated that the oysters made 15 people ill with a norovirus-type illness. The oysters could have been made into dozens of products: shucked, frozen and breaded oysters were also found in New Orleans restaurants. 15 people diagnosed with the non-life-threatening problem.

Only two individuals stayed in the hospital and have since been released, according to the health officials. The people who had symptoms told health officials they had eaten Louisiana oysters harvested from Area 3. This happened between January 15 and January 31.
