Back Injury Sparks Alleged Revenge on Health Boss

A serious back injury might have driven Luigi Mangione, a 26-year-old data engineer, to shoot and kill UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in Manhattan last week. Police believe this life-altering event could be linked to the motive behind the murder. Mangione, a University of Pennsylvania graduate from a wealthy Baltimore family, was recognized at a McDonald's in Pennsylvania after a nationwide manhunt. Detectives have been investigating Mangione's motivations. An X-ray of his spine with medical implements, found on his social media, suggests a severe accident in July 2023. NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny commented that this injury could have set Mangione on the path to the killing.
