A well-known criminal case from Chile involving actor Keanu Reeves' stolen watch points to similar tactics used by burglars targeting high-profile individuals. It's a reminder that even when these incidents aren't directly linked, the methods and motives can be similar.
Law enforcement agencies in the U. S. and Chile have been working together to identify and prosecute these organized crime groups. However, there's a growing concern about the ease with which some criminals can enter the country using visa waiver programs without thorough background checks.
Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer has highlighted this issue, emphasizing that many of these criminals aren't here as tourists but to steal high-value items. The problem extends beyond sports stars, affecting anyone with expensive belongings and homes.
LAPD Chief of Detectives Alan Hamilton added that some of these suspects belong to transnational gangs concentrated in areas where high-net-worth individuals often reside. The burglaries have spread nationwide, and tracking these suspects is a continual effort.
