Apple Unveils a 27‑inch Pro Display with 120Hz and Mini‑LED Tech

Cupertino, California, USATuesday, March 3, 2026

Apple has rolled out a new high‑end monitor called the Studio Display XDR. The screen is 27 inches wide and delivers a 5K resolution of 5120 × 2880 pixels, giving sharp detail for professional use. A mini‑LED backlight with 2,304 dimming zones allows the display to reach a peak brightness of 2,000 nits for HDR content and 1,000 nits for standard video. The contrast ratio reaches one million to one, which means blacks stay deep while whites remain bright.

The device also supports a 120‑Hz refresh rate and Adaptive Sync, making it suitable for smooth motion in video editing or animation. Color accuracy is emphasized with support for one billion colors and wide gamuts that cover both P3 and Adobe RGB. The True Tone feature adjusts the screen’s warmth automatically.

For communication, the monitor includes a 12‑megapixel camera that can show a “Desk View” when you’re on video calls. The built‑in speaker system has six drivers and works with Spatial Audio, while a trio of microphones offers studio‑quality voice capture.

Connectivity is handled through Thunderbolt 5. One port powers the device and can charge a laptop at up to 140 watts. Two additional Thunderbolt ports let you attach high‑speed accessories or chain more displays, and two USB‑C slots provide 10 Gb/s data transfer.

The design of the XDR is almost identical to Apple’s regular Studio Display, but it does not feature the lattice pattern found on the older Pro Display XDR. The stand is adjustable for height and tilt, and the product starts at $3,299. Pre‑orders begin March 4, with shipping expected on March 11. Buyers can choose between standard glass or a nano‑texture upgrade for an extra $300.

Apple also refreshed the original Studio Display line, offering more options for users who need a professional monitor but not the extreme specifications of the XDR.
