Amazon Expands Its Global Network With LoRa Technology

Semtech Corp. announced that its LoRa radio modulation will keep Amazon’s Sidewalk network running worldwide by 2026. The move follows the company’s decision to use LoRa for its long‑range, low‑power connectivity. Sidewalk is a free service that lets devices stay connected beyond normal Wi‑Fi borders. Currently, the network reaches roughly 95 percent of people in the United States. In late July Canada and Mexico will join, with other regions to follow later this year. Sidewalk is one of the biggest consumer uses of LoRa in the world. Experts expect the global LoRaWAN market to grow from about $10 billion in 2025 to nearly $45 billion by 2030. More than 125 million devices are already connected, and that number is rising quickly.

Amazon started using LoRa in 2023 to extend Sidewalk’s coverage. The technology lets sensors connect from fixed points and moving devices across whole neighborhoods. Semtech highlighted the strengths of LoRa: its range, minimal power use, and ability to support large networks. Amazon’s side‑walk manager said the goal is “invisible, reliable connectivity. ” A senior Semtech executive praised Amazon’s choice as proof that proven wireless can power the Internet of Things. Semtech also bought HieFo Corporation for about $34 million. The acquisition adds laser and gain‑chip technology to the company’s data‑center portfolio, helping it meet growing AI demands. The deal is expected to improve earnings per share in the first year, and Semtech plans more production and jobs at HieFo’s California site. The company will report earnings on March 16, 2026. Analysts predict a slight drop in earnings per share to $0. 37 from $0. 40, while revenue is expected to rise to $273 million. The stock has a high price‑to‑earnings ratio, but many analysts still give it a buy rating. Current trading shows the share near its yearly high.
