AI in Trump's Vision: A Path to Progress

Former President Donald Trump has made it clear that he sees artificial intelligence (AI) as a key tool for improving America. He's talked about using AI to boost education, healthcare, and even cut down on repeat offenders in prisons. In 2018, his team pushed for laws to reduce recidivism, asking Congress to step in. And in December that same year, he signed the First Step Act to make the criminal justice system fairer and safer. Trump's big on making the U.S. a leader in AI. He's done things like issue the first national AI strategy, double research funding, and set up AI research institutes. He even signed an executive order in 2019 to create resources, redirect funding, and retrain workers for AI jobs. Before leaving office, he signed another order to make sure AI is used safely and fairly in the government.

The Biden administration has a different plan. In 2023, they issued an order that Trump says he'll reverse if elected. Trump and the Republican National Committee (RNC) think this order will kill innovation and push left-wing ideas. Senator Ted Cruz wrote a letter last month questioning the Biden-Harris team's work with the RAND Corporation. He's worried about censorship and conflicts of interest with AI regulation. Trump's vice presidential pick, JD Vance, agrees that AI regulation should be kept in check. He thinks AI can boost productivity and lower prices, like how LASIK eye surgery got cheaper and better over time. As someone who works with AI, I've seen how it can improve lives, like with water purification systems. It's clear that Trump wants to keep America at the forefront of AI. The other choice might slow down innovation and increase censorship.
