In a world where online shopping is king, a small pop-up exhibit at Arden Fair Mall is taking people on a trip down memory lane. The exhibit, "Rewind Sacramento," is a nostalgic journey back to the 1990s and early 2000s, showcasing what the mall used to look like.

A Blast from the Past

The exhibit features old photos of stores that once stood at Arden Fair, overlaid on what occupies those spaces today. Visitors can see familiar names like:

  • Copeland's Sports
  • Waldenbooks store

Additionally, the exhibit showcases vintage clothing and accessories, including:

  • Limited-edition Hello Kitty overalls
  • Old shopping bags

The Brainchild Behind the Exhibit

The exhibit is the brainchild of photographer and curator Zaved Khan. Khan says he's been overwhelmed by the positive response to the exhibit.

"I've had people just in tears sending me messages saying, like, 'I'm in your exhibit crying because I've missed this place.'"

The Importance of Malls

Sarah Mejia, owner of Button and Zip Vintage and the clothing curator for the exhibit, says malls played an important role growing up.

"I'm hoping malls make a big comeback, because in your youth, that's like your first independence."

Visit the Exhibit

The "Rewind Sacramento" exhibit is open through Jan. 7. It's located next to the line for pictures with Santa, near the Christmas tree at Arden Fair Mall.
