A Restaurant Worker’s Fight for Justice

New Haven, Connecticut, USASaturday, July 4, 2026
A young man from New Haven says he was attacked by a coworker at Union League Café. He claims the assault happened on his last day in February 2025. The attacker locked him in a bathroom, pinned him and touched his private parts. After the incident he called the police and told the manager, but no help came. He says this was not a one‑time event. Earlier in October 2024, another employee punched him and made crude jokes about his body. The same person later shouted insults like “stupid American” and sang out loud at him. He reported these actions to human resources, but the employee only got a warning.
In February 2025 he asked about a promised promotion to server. The manager told him he would be fired if he left. He was forced to sign a resignation form that made it look like he quit. The worker filed complaints with the state and federal equal‑employment agencies. He says the restaurant did not protect him or punish the harassers. Because of the abuse he now suffers from anxiety and depression. He is suing for lost wages, emotional pain and punitive damages. The lawsuit names the restaurant group as the defendant. A letter was sent to the café for comment. No reply has been received yet.
