Rabbi Gershon Litt has been a beacon of inspiration for countless young Jewish adults. For nearly two decades, he has led Birthright Israel trips, helping young Jews connect with their heritage.

Awarded the 2025 Jeffrey R. Solomon Prize

Litt was recently honored with the 2025 Jeffrey R. Solomon Prize, an award recognizing educators who make a profound impact on young adults. The celebration took place in New York, marking the 25th anniversary of Birthright Israel.

Gidi Mark, CEO of Birthright Israel, praised Litt as a shining example of educators in this field. Litt expressed his gratitude, calling Birthright Israel a powerful tool for engaging young Jews.

Beyond the Trips: Building Community

Birthright trips are not just about learning—they are also about fun, bonding, and exploration. Participants visit iconic locations like Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, and the Dead Sea, and meet Israeli peers. Litt leads these trips twice a year, with many participants from William & Mary and other universities.

Litt’s influence extends beyond Birthright. He has worked with Hillel organizations at various universities. Rachel Dornfest, a former student, credits Litt for deepening her connection to Israel, helping her grow her faith and identity. Dornfest has since visited Israel multiple times and even attended seminary there.

A Stronger Jewish Community

Litt’s efforts have fostered a thriving Jewish community at William & Mary. The Jewish Center is now seven years old, and Hillel has over 650 students. The center hosts events that foster belonging, and Litt sees this as a team effort, valuing the contributions of staff, students, and fellow educators.

Commitment to Education

Litt’s work is not just about trips—he is also dedicated to education. The Solomon Prize includes funding for professional development, and Litt plans to use this opportunity to become an even better educator. His dedication continues to inspire and transform young Jewish adults.
