A Quiet Square for Science

Nanjing, Jiangsu Province, China,Thursday, July 9, 2026
The new Midea Science Center is a quiet showcase of modern research, built beside Tadao Ando’s circular He Art Museum. Its design is simple: a white stone façade, clear glass walls and a black metal roof create a clean look that feels almost sculptural. The building is square, reflecting a traditional Chinese courtyard style, while the neighboring museum’s round shape keeps the area lively. Inside, open spaces and enclosed rooms dance together, letting light flow through but also providing places to focus on experiments.
The architects used only a few colors and materials, letting the building’s function shine through instead of fancy decorations. Because it is built for science, every corner has a purpose: labs, exhibition halls and meeting rooms are all carefully arranged. Visitors can walk from one exhibit to another while feeling the calm of a well‑planned space. The center’s design shows that technology and nature can live together, giving people a place to learn and imagine new ideas.
