A Night of Local Legends and Big Wins
Orange County, CA, USASaturday, June 20, 2026
Five‑time Olympic gold medalist Aaron Peirsol, a 42‑year‑old backstroke icon from Newport Harbor High, received the Icon Award. Peirsol, who now lives in Hawaii and champions ocean protection, shared that he still holds the 200‑meter backstroke record set in 2009. He expressed pride in his legacy while hoping future swimmers will break his time.
Other recognitions included Coach of the Year for Natalie Nakase, who led the Golden State Valkyries to success and credited her entire team. High school athletes Makena Cook and Acen Jimenez earned top honors, while UC Irvine’s Hunter Hernandez and Kyle Evans were named college athletes of the year. Ashlyn Gwynn, a rising star in Cal State Fullerton soccer, also received applause.
The event celebrated both historic achievements and the ongoing influence of Orange County’s sports community, proving that local talent can shine on a national stage.
