A New Way to Boost Fuel Cell Catalysts

You know how fuel cells use something called a catalyst to make energy? Usually, they use something called a platinum catalyst. But scientists are looking for something better. One option is something called an Fe-N-C catalyst. It's promising, but it doesn't last long enough. So, some smart researchers decided to change things up. They took the Fe-N-C catalyst and turned it into something new: an FeNxSey catalyst. This new catalyst has iron atoms that are surrounded by nitrogen and selenium atoms in three dimensions.

It works better and lasts much longer than the Fe-N-C catalyst. In fact, it's the most stable non-platinum catalyst ever made! It even handles tough conditions better, like when there's hydrogen peroxide around. So, fuel cells with this new catalyst should last a lot longer. Isn't that cool? It's like upgrading your car from a regular engine to a super-efficient one!
