A New Entertainment Hub Takes Shape in Prince George’s County
National Harbor, Maryland, USAThursday, April 30, 2026
Aisha Braveboy, the county executive, noted that the venue would spur economic growth and bring high‑skill jobs to the region. The bill also expands the definition of an “Extraordinary Development District, ” giving planners more flexibility to build and improve the entertainment zone.
State legislators argue that the complex will boost tourism, arts and hospitality in Maryland. They believe the specialized technology required for Sphere demands unique financing arrangements, which the new law supports.
The project is expected to create roughly 2, 500 jobs directly and support an additional 4, 750 through related services. Maryland’s government has pledged $13. 5 million toward the endeavor.
If all approvals line up, the venue could open before 2030 and become a major attraction for visitors to National Harbor.
