A New Chapter in Bloom

New Britain, CT, USAThursday, July 9, 2026

The long‑running florist shop in New Britain has found a fresh owner, handing over the keys to a younger generation who shares the same love for flowers and Polish roots. Teresa Borowski, who opened her shop in 1981 after moving from Poland, has been a pillar of the community for nearly four decades. She recently stepped aside and gave her business to Zaneta Tymura, a 27‑year‑old florist who has worked alongside Teresa in another shop and grew up learning the craft from her mother, Joanna Tymura.

From Roots to Bloom

  • Teresa’s Legacy – A horticulture and herbalism background earned at a university in Warsaw shaped her shop’s offerings, blending flowers with traditional Polish herbs and even hosting a weekly radio show about Polish culture.
  • Zaneta’s Journey – Growing up watching her mother design bouquets, she began making quick arrangements for friends and later freelanced for weddings, funerals, and events. Her work always centers on bringing joy to people’s faces.

The Transfer

The handover, a surprise for many, was driven by family ties and experience. Teresa approached Zaneta with the offer, highlighting her daughter’s passion and kindness toward customers, ensuring a family member would help manage the shop. Teresa’s generosity stems from her long friendship with Joanna and a desire to keep the business thriving after she can no longer manage its physical demands.

A New Chapter

Zaneta will run the New Britain location under the new name “Unique Floral Studio.” Teresa stays on as an advisor, while the Tymuras honor the tradition she helped establish. The transfer ceremony on July 2 was a community event attended by local officials and long‑time patrons. Mayor Bobby Sanchez praised Teresa’s decades of service and highlighted the new owners’ commitment to preserving her legacy while bringing fresh energy to downtown New Britain.

The shop’s future looks bright, with the new leadership ready to bloom in their own unique style while honoring the rich heritage of the original florist.
