E-Line to Replace Old Route 6

Metro Transit is set to introduce the E-Line, a new bus route that will replace the old Route 6. This route will run from Southdale to the University of Minnesota, with an expected 3,000 daily riders.

Business Owners Have Mixed Feelings

The construction phase has been challenging for local businesses. Victoria Ford, owner of "Comma, A Bookshop" in Linden Hills, is relieved that the construction is over. She anticipates an increase in foot traffic with the new bus line.

Enhanced Features of the E-Line

  • Faster and more frequent service
  • Fewer stops
  • Improved bus shelters with:
  • Heat
  • Lights
  • Cameras
  • Real-time bus information

The project has been in development since 2018.

Impact of Construction on Local Businesses

Last year, road closures and detours significantly affected local businesses. Some lost up to 60% of their customers. The 50th and France Business Association reports that customers are slowly returning, and they hope the new bus line will further boost the area.

Community Optimism

Rebecca Sorensen, Executive Director of the 50th & France Business Association, acknowledges the difficulties but believes the new bus line will benefit the community. Victoria Ford also sees the potential, noting that improved public transportation could encourage more people to visit local stores without needing a car.
