A Century of Life: Peter Camenares' Secret to a Long and Happy Life
Peter Camenares, a resident of Staten Island, has just celebrated a remarkable milestone: his 100th birthday. A centenarian with a wealth of experiences, Peter shares his insights on reaching this incredible age.
The Secret to Longevity
When asked about his secret to a long life, Peter attributes it to a combination of good genes and abundant love from his family. He shares a particularly close bond with his daughter, Diane Vourderis, who has been a constant source of support throughout his life.
A Life Through History
Born on Christmas Day in 1925, Peter has witnessed significant historical events. He has lived through the presidencies of 17 U.S. presidents, from Calvin Coolidge to Donald Trump. A proud veteran, Peter served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Career and Hobbies
Before retiring, Peter had a successful career in the insurance industry. Post-retirement, he embraced a new role as a gentleman farmer, tending to his vegetable gardens with dedication. He also had a penchant for gambling, enjoying trips to Las Vegas and Atlantic City. Today, he is known as the "Bingo King" at Sunrise Senior Living of Staten Island, where he is a beloved resident.
Family and Loss
Peter's life has not been without its challenges. He lost his wife, Stella, in 1994 after 44 years of marriage. Despite this loss, he finds joy in his family, which includes two children, five grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. He has a special place in his heart for his 9-year-old great-granddaughter, Sienna Scotti.
Celebrating Birthdays
As we celebrate Peter's centenary, it's also a time to honor other birthdays happening this week, from January 11th to the 17th. These celebrations highlight the unique individuals who make Staten Island such a special place to live.
