A Bus Blaze in Kerzers Raises Questions About Intent
Bus Fire in Kerzers: Six Dead, Investigation Ongoing
Police in Switzerland are probing whether a bus fire that claimed six lives was intentionally set. The incident occurred Tuesday evening in Kerzers, a town roughly 15 miles from Bern. Authorities suspect an “unidentified voluntary act” may have sparked the blaze, but evidence is still being collected.
The tragedy echoes a prior fatal fire on New Year’s Eve in the ski town of Crans‑Montana, which killed 41 people. This time, five others were injured; some required ambulance and helicopter transport. The bus was operated by PostBus, the national postal service’s transport arm.
A police spokesperson cited rumors that someone might have poured flammable liquid on the vehicle, igniting the fire. Investigators continue to confirm details, and the local police chief stated there is no indication that the incident was a terror attack.
The community mourns, and the national president offered condolences on social media. Rescue teams found the bus completely engulfed upon arrival, and by Wednesday morning traffic had cleared the road. The identities of those who died will be announced after further checks.
