9/11: A Day for Reflection, Not Politics
Thursday, September 12, 2024
Volunteer projects and service initiatives have become integral parts of the anniversary celebrations.
As we pause to remember the victims, we must confront the elephant in the room: the often-blurred lines between politics and patriotism.
Can we truly honor the memories of those lost if we don't critically examine the ways in which our country has responded to the attacks? What if we assume that the wars, the surveillance state, and the erosion of civil liberties that followed in the wake of 9/11 were justified?
This anniversary serves as a poignant reminder that the complexities of 9/11 are far from settled.
As we look back on the past, we must also gaze into the future, recognizing the ongoing struggles of the victims' families, the first responders, and the survivors.
